The Problem

Projects rarely fail inside a discipline. They fail between them.

Construction projects often fail at the points where people, teams, contractors, consultants, suppliers, clients and regulators must connect. This workshop trains participants to identify, manage and control those interfaces — reducing delays, closing scope gaps and improving handovers.

Construction Interface Management is the process of making sure every person, team, contractor, consultant, supplier and stakeholder on a construction project connects properly at the points where their work overlaps.

Professor Martin Morgan Tuuli

Professor of Operations & Project Management, Loughborough Business School (UK)

Martin is Professor of Operations and Project Management and Director of Academic Staffing at Loughborough Business School, Loughborough University. He is the immediate past Deputy Rector (Pro Vice Chancellor) and Professor of Construction Business & Project Management at the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA), where he also served as Dean of the GIMPA Business School.

Over more than a decade, he has led major research programmes as Principal and Co-Investigator, studying the human and behavioural mechanisms that keep projects and project-based organisations effective. His work spans 60+ peer-reviewed papers, conference proceedings and book chapters, cited over 2,000 times, and he has supervised eight PhD students to completion. He is the recipient of 11 national and international awards and fellowships.

Martin is also an Honorary Professor at the University of Hong Kong, and Board Chairman & Non-Executive Director at iGreen Engineering & Property Development Company Ltd, Ghana.

Work through a realistic construction project scenario and flag where handoffs between parties are most likely to break down.

Build an interface register

Convert what you've identified into a working register using the responsibility matrix and escalation tracker templates.

Present mitigation actions

Present your register and mitigation plan to the group, and stress-test it against facilitator and peer feedback.
